Introduction
Chan Sik Ahn is a partner in HMP’s corporate practice group. Mr. Ahn specializes in advising multinational corporations and their local entities here in Korea on the full range of corporate/commercial matters, with a primary focus on inbound and outbound foreign investment, M&A (including joint ventures), tech & comms, antitrust and fair trade, employment and labor, and data protection. He has in-depth experience and expertise in all aspects of foreign investment, from incorporation, to ongoing business operations, to closure and liquidation. Mr. Ahn handles various types of cross-border and local M&A transactions. One of his major areas of expertise relates to business combination/merger filings for foreign companies. He has spoken or written on various competition issues, for example, cartel regulations and the extraterritorial application of Korean antitrust law. Currently leading HMP’s Tech & Comms Team, he provides clients with proactive, strategic and specialized legal advice on current or potential legal issues relating to various breakthrough technologies that represent the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as internet of things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR), FinTech, Bitcoin and other virtual (crypto) currencies, virtual (crypto) currency exchanges, blockchain, drones, electric cars, driverless cars, secondary battery/renewable energy/new materials, games, and sharing economy. As a member of HMP’s employment and labor team, he also deals with a variety of labor issues, mostly for foreign-invested companies in Korea. Mr. Ahn also actively advises in personal information, privacy, and data protection laws of Korea and has been involved in numerous data protection-related implementation and compliance projects for clients. He has frequently participated and contributed to various multi-jurisdictional surveys regarding FDI, antitrust, labor and employment, and data protection. Recently, he also actively advises clients in the areas of energy, resources and environment.
